Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies and Milk

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaaspoon salt
  • 1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips (6 ounces)

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375°F. Line large cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats. I used 3 half sheet pans because I like the raised edges.
  2. Measure flour into a medium bowl. Add baking soda and salt. Stir. Set aside.
  3. Mix butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla thoroughly. Stir dry ingredients in and blend well. Reserve 1/3 cup of chocolate chips. Mix in remaining chocolate chips.
  4. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough about 2" apart on prepared pans. Place several chocolate chips on top of each cookie before baking (this makes them look pretty when they come out of the oven). Bake 8-10 minutes or until light golden brown on edges. (Cookies will still be soft.) Cool for 10 minutes, then place on cooling rack to completely cool.
